Despite its age, StreamSets has managed to find around 20 customers paying support subscriptions for its open source Data Collector, which helps companies set up their data pipelines. Now it faces a bigger test as it launches its first paid-for technology, DPM. We were impressed by the demo we were shown, and given the founders’ backgrounds at Informatica and Cloudera, there are reasons to be optimistic. It’s early days, but the firm’s grander vision around ‘data performance management’ centers of excellence resonates well with us because most of the focus on data quality thus far has been expended on data at rest versus data in motion.
